Dream Nursery

Today, Casi from cupcakeMag is sharing a super cute nursery design they put together, I'll let her take it from here.

Hello MadeByGirl readers! For the last few months cupcakeMAG has been working with the amazing  Land of Nod, Serta, Serena & Lily & more to create the perfect space for our latest cupcakeMAG home makeover project! It is all about focusing on the small spaces trend – creating a wow factor in a small space with big things

Our canvas is a blank 10 x 8 room which we created for 2 sisters. cupcakeMAG wanted to mix and match bold patterns like Chevron and Ikat to create a fresh and bright space with colors little girls love.

Project Details:

We painted the walls with coordinating Annette Tatum paint in Sorbet + Corneliam makes them really pop. To achieve the white stripe in between, we just peeled off the painters tape. We placed an Expedit Ikea Bookshelf on it's side  under the exposed closet to have a place for storage and to be used as a bench. Instead of having a fish in your typical aquarium we placed a Betta fish in a pretty apothecary jar from HomeGoods. For only $10 - it was much cheaper.

We found lots of frames at yard sales, thrift stores and Michaels and sprayed painted them in Valspar's Spray Paint for our liking. We created a reading nook inside the closet which will be shown off exclusively on cupcakeMAG.

We bunched together paper lanterns from  The TomKat Studio Shop and pom poms to create a little something pretty over the bed which brought in even more color! We included lots of little prettiest like the Clairebella Personalized Zebra Tray from Layla Grayce to add little touches of flair. When sharing space, don't put everything out for display. Only a few special things like a pretty doll - we love this one, which just so happens to match the room perfectly from Blabla Kids.

Advice from cupcakeMAG on a small space:

Don't be afraid to mix and match. Look for things you can re-vamp and give second life too. Shop thrift stores, yard sales and look for Craigslist freebies to make your own. To create a higher bed, add a box spring with the mattress even though this bed doesn't need one like we did with the Serta Mattresses.

You have to think outside of the box. We created the exposed closet so it would both fill up an empty wall and create a great focal point. We took a bookshelf and laid it down to use it as a bench that can also be used to store toys in. You have to figure out ways to make the space work for you, and just because it’s small, doesn’t mean you can’t create something great!

  11. I definitely see a lot of ideas here for my kids' room. I like the ikat and the paper lanterns. Also, a reading nook! How sweet.

p.s. you should feature more boys' rooms, i could be wrong, but i don't think i've seen as many.
